What MaxPro Mode Does in FTMS All Sync
MaxPro and MaxPro Air are compact cable-resistance machines with a cable and resistance knob to quickly adjust pull tension. MaxPro is dual-sided and MaxPro Air is a single pull device. They don’t use the standard FTMS fitness-machine protocol, so FTMS All Sync includes a dedicated MaxPro activity that speaks their own Bluetooth protocol.
Select MaxPro as the activity and FTMS All Sync will:
- Find and connect to MaxPro (original) and MaxPro Air units automatically
- Count reps separately for the left and right cable
- Show resistance level, estimated force, pull length, pull speed, volume and work
- Record each set as a lap, so every set gets its own stats in Garmin Connect
- Save the workout as a MaxPro training activity on your Garmin
- In Pro Mode, guide you through complete workout programs with targets, rest timers and progressive overload
Connecting to Your MaxPro
- Turn on the MaxPro and make sure it isn’t connected to the MaxPro phone app (a MaxPro can only talk to one device at a time).
- Start FTMS All Sync, open the menu and set Activity to MaxPro.
- The app scans for nearby units. Some MaxPro models don’t broadcast their name, so the app briefly “probes” nearby devices to read it – you’ll see Probing on the scan screen while it does.
- When your MaxPro appears in the list, press Start.
The workout screen appears immediately with Connecting shown in the centre until the link is up. If the MaxPro can’t be reached within about a minute, the app stops trying and continues recording with your watch’s own metrics (heart rate, time, calories).
How MaxPro Looks in FTMS All Sync
MaxPro mode uses the same configurable cell display as the other activities: choose 4, 6 or 8 cells per page, round or square layouts, and up to 16 fields across two pages (page 2 in Pro Mode). The defaults put heart rate, set reps, force, volume and resistance up front.
Note: Force values are estimates from the resistance setting (the MaxPro has no load cell). Force and volume follow your watch’s units (kg or lb).
MaxPro Metrics
Most metrics are available for the left side, the right side and, where it makes sense, in total.
Live
- Resistance Level (knob setting)
- Force (estimated from the resistance setting)
- Pull Length, Pull Time and Pull Speed of the last rep
Current Set (reset with each lap)
- Set Reps (left, right, total)
- Set Last, Average and Max Force
- Set Average Pull Speed
- Set Number
Workout Totals
- Reps (left, right, total)
- Volume (force × reps)
- Time Under Tension
- Cable Travel
- Work (approximate, in joules)
Device & Garmin Metrics
- MaxPro Battery
- Heart Rate, Average Heart Rate, Max Heart Rate
- Calories and Calories / Min
- Elapsed Time and Clock Time
Sets & Laps
In MaxPro mode one lap is one set. Press Lap (the Back button on most watches) when you finish a set: the set counters reset, and a short Set n Completed screen confirms it. Each lap in Garmin Connect then shows that set’s reps, resistance, and average and max force for each side.
Guided Workout Programs (Pro Feature)
With Pro Mode enabled, FTMS All Sync can lead you through a complete strength workout. The MaxPro has no remote control, so programs guide you: they tell you which exercise is next, how many reps to aim for and what resistance to set, and they time your rests.
Choosing a Program
- On the watch, open the menu and choose Set Dynamic Mode.
- Freestyle – no program; you train however you like and every lap is a set.
- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced – the three built-in programs (you can rename and rewrite them).
Built-In Programs
All three can be done standing on the MaxPro base – no wall mount or bench needed.
- Beginner – about 15 minutes. Squat, Bent-Over Row, Press and Curl, 12 reps each, 2 rounds.
- Intermediate – about 30 minutes. Deadlift, Press, Bent-Over Row, Curl, Triceps Extension and single-sided Woodchops, 3 rounds.
- Advanced – about 60 minutes. Squat, Deadlift, Press, Bent-Over Row, single-arm Curls, Woodchops and Thrusters, 3 rounds.
Each one starts with a short warm-up that is played once.
During a Program
- The Set cell shows Set: 3 R: 2 (set and round) above the exercise name, e.g. “Curl”.
- Reps, resistance and force cells show value/target, e.g.
8/12or9.5/10.0. Adjust the knobs until your setting matches the target, then do your reps. - Targets are shown in whatever the cell displays: a level target appears as force in a force cell, and a force target as a level in a resistance cell.
- For single-sided steps (e.g. left arm only), the unused side shows
--. - Press Lap when you finish a set to move to the next step.
Rest Screen
When a rest step starts, a dedicated Rest screen shows a large countdown and, underneath, the Next exercise with its left and right resistance targets – so you can set the knobs during your rest. When the countdown ends the rest is recorded as its own lap and the workout screen returns. Press Lap to end a rest early.
Rounds & Feedback
- Warm-up steps play once; the rest of the program repeats as rounds.
- A medium vibration marks the end of each round.
- A double vibration marks the end of the program’s final round. The workout keeps going until you end it, so you can add extra rounds.
Writing Your Own Programs
Programs are edited in the FTMS All Sync settings in Connect IQ or Garmin Express, under MaxPro Workouts.
Exercise Names
Steps refer to exercises by number. Slots 1–9 hold your exercise names (up to 20 characters); slot 0 is always Rest. The defaults are:
- Rest
- Bent-Over Row
- Squat
- Thruster
- Curl
- Deadlift
- Lateral Raise
- Triceps Extension
- Woodchop
- Press
The exercise name is saved with each lap, so Garmin Connect shows what you did in every set.
Program Format
Steps are separated by commas, parameters by semicolons, and each parameter is written as
key:value:
W:– optional prefix marking this step as a warm-up (played once)T:n– exercise slot 0–9 (0 = Rest), requiredR:n– target reps for each side (for a Rest step: the rest time in seconds)LR:n/RR:n– target reps for the left / right side onlyL:x– target resistance as a knob levelF:x– target resistance as force per cable; addLBorKG(e.g.F:20LB), or leave it off to use your watch’s unitsN:n– optional number of rounds; must be the last item
Example – a warm-up, then curls and presses with rests, repeated 3 times:
W:T:4;R:12;F:8LB,T:4;R:10;F:20LB,T:0;R:60,T:9;R:10;F:15LB,T:0;R:60,N:3 Example – one arm at a time:
T:4;LR:10;L:6.0,T:4;RR:10;L:6.0,T:0;R:45 Force targets are converted to your watch’s units when settings load, and the program string is rewritten to match – so the built-in programs (written in pounds) automatically show in kilograms on metric watches. Force targets also work the same on both MaxPro models, because the app converts force to the right knob level for the machine you’re connected to.
Progressive Mode (Pro Feature)
Turn on Enable Progressive Mode in the MaxPro Workouts settings and the app will gradually increase your targets as you get stronger.
- Your program’s targets are the starting point – progression never drops below them.
- Each exercise and each side progresses separately.
- When you save a workout in which every set of an exercise reached its target reps at (or within 0.2 of) its target level, that exercise’s target goes up by one tenth of a level for next time – roughly a 1% increase.
- If you miss, the target stays the same. After two missed sessions in a row it eases back by one tenth.
- Discarded workouts don’t change anything.
- Level targets are shown rounded to the nearest half level, so they step up about every five successful sessions; force targets show every small increase.
- Renaming an exercise slot starts that exercise’s progression from scratch.
MaxPro Menu Options
In Pro Mode, with MaxPro selected, Set Dynamic Mode on the watch offers:
- Freestyle and your three program names – choose what to run
- Reset Progression – clears all progressive-mode history
- Reset Workout Defaults – restores the default exercise names and the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced programs (in your watch’s units) and clears progression history
Your Workout in Garmin Connect
Summary Screen
When you save, the watch shows a MaxPro summary: total work, left and right reps, left and right volume, sets completed and calories.
Stats, Laps & Charts
- Stats – workout totals: reps, volume, time under tension, cable travel, work and number of sets, plus the machine model.
- Laps – one lap per set (and per rest in a program): exercise name, set reps, resistance, and average and max force for each side.
- Charts – left and right set reps climbing through each set, rep force at every rep (dropping to zero between sets), pull power, pull speed, pull length and work per pull.
Compatibility Notes
- Works with the original MaxPro and the MaxPro Air (single- and two-module units).
- Close or disconnect the MaxPro phone app before starting – the machine accepts one connection at a time.
- Force is estimated from the resistance setting using each model’s published resistance tables, not measured.
- Work and power are approximations (force × pull length).
